Welcome to Friday and the first day of November!
I spent most of this week wiping my hands on my apron and scribbling notes in my notebook as I worked on creating some super delicious recipes for all of you. It’s going to be a delicious winter! But before I get ahead of myself, the fall weather has my husband and delving into the recipe archives to pull out some of his comfort food favorites. We love cooking together. This week we made my grandma’s super moist and tender meatloaf recipe with the tastiest sweet glaze. My husband made these ultra creamy potatoes and I whipped up these super easy carrots to serve on the side. Man, I love fall food.
This Sunday is the end of Daylight Savings Time. Time to “fall back” and gain an extra hour of sleep (thank you!). But beware of the time change affecting your health including an increase in heart attacks, mood swings, and car crashes.
After months and even years of campaigning, Tuesday will be the final day to make your voice heard in the 2024 U.S. election. If you haven’t already cast your vote, DO IT! Find your early voting info here and November 5 voting centers here.
This week we saw this movie in theatres and it delivered all of the inside baseball, back-stabbing, and scandal of campaigning for power (surprise! religious leaders might not be immune) and a shocking ending that I could see some of other movie-goers were NOT okay with. Totally worth the $12 popcorn.
It seems like I never have enough time to enjoy the current holiday before the next one is upon us and putting up my Christmas decorations is a multi-day ordeal. That’s why again this year, science says I’ll be happier when I put up my Christmas tree at the beginning of November. Anyone on the same holiday train as me?
Want to live longer? (I’m sort of obsessed with the subject if you haven’t noticed):
You’ve heard of cookie swaps but have you heard of a soup swap? Sign me up.
Speaking of soup, here are 4 I’ve got my eye on:
The coziest, dreamiest fall dinner.
I picked so many apples from our cabin’s apple tree (they’re so amazingly sweet!) and that’s why this smothered pork recipe totally caught my eye.
Couscous is one of my favorite grains and so quick to make. It’s just one reason this salad with pumpkin looks like a new fall favorite.
This 30-minute sheet pan dinner is so up my alley.
Time-crunched mornings call for a quick bite on-the-go and these nutritious, delicious oatmeal bars look perfect for grab-and-go.
An all-time classic, this cheesy Frito pie is a football-watching crowd-pleaser.
This cake is yet another reason to hit the tuber aisle to find your favorite baking ingredient. LUSH!
Curry is one of my favorite ingredients so why have I not yet made this delicious version of chicken noodle soup? I’m on it.
Oh my goodness, how amazing do these little upside-down brie bites look? These are perfect for holiday entertaining.
Excited to try this creamy rigatoni which gets a kick of heat from Calabrian chili.
Love the idea of these pumpkin maple black & white cookies. What a striking color contrast too!
I could eat this salad every darn day.
And this one has all of the crunch that I crave.
Craving chicken fajita quesadillas for a simple weeknight dinner.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you know my favorite dessert is German chocolate cake. So you can imagine my surprise and delight when I stumbled upon this German chocolate cheesecake. Holy moly.
Speaking of German recipes, I’m totally pining after this new cookbook.
Omg, I want to eat this for breakfast so bad.
And, these biscuits are also calling my name and would make for such a dreamy cool weather breakfast bite.
And since we’re on the subject, this is the best time of day to eat breakfast.
I love these food storage containers for storing leftovers and food I deliver to my mom. They’re great for freezing chicken stock, too.
For those recipes where I don’t need a whole drizzle, I ordered these smaller oil spray bottles, one for neutral oil and one for olive oils.
Don’t sleep on getting this ribbon for your Christmas present wrapping to add that extra special touch.
The best sneakers, according to hundreds of hours of testing.
You can find my favorite style of winter nightgown avail in lots of colors here or for half the price and fewer options here.
One of my favorite hacks is to buy really good perfume in sample size. Perfect for my purse or travel or to just test a new scent.
If you like a nearly no-fragrance moisturizer, trade out your regular body lotion for this one that’s never greasy or sticky.
I’m bookmarking this for my next trip back to L.A.
She’s my husband’s favorite SNL cast member but it wasn’t until I saw her home tour that I discovered that not only do we share our first name, but we both love that mid-century rock/wood/windows meets 70’s disco/sexy/chic home design. I’d live here in a second (and if she was included my husband probs would too 🙂 )
And that’s it for this week! Enjoy the weekend and cook something comforting and good!
